Acrylic.
I originally did this for a fanart contest on TORn, and was rather miffed that the first prize went to a pencil portrait of Ian McKellan-as-Gandalf (which was tecnically v. good but just copying, damnit). It was painted in the summer of 2002, before The Two Towers was released. It's therefore bookverse fanart first and foremost, and no small part from my own, un-Peter Jackson-tainted vision of the scene and characters.
I'll readily admit it is too dark though.

I think the darkness brings out Frodo, Sam and Gollum and that makes the painting even more interesting. And to be honest the hobbits actually look a lot like how I imagined them when reading the book, so I love you didn't do the regular PJ-fanart! xD This is way more unique and I personally think it really fits the part of the story though. So you did a wonderful job, the painting is simply beautiful! I wish I had your skills with acrylics haha
