Sculpture class again.

Grandville meets Gaiman... sort of, this wasn't my best work.
The idea was to do an animal-headed human figure and play with character traits and physionomy. Very much like the Blacksad comic and the work of Grandville (who, btw, if you don't know, you must Google this instant. Awesome 19th cent. French caricaturist and surreal artist.)

I was very very heavily inspired by Mister Ibis of the Jaquel and Ibis Funeral Home in Gaiman's American Gods, as well as by a creepy birdskull-headed figure who's been popping up in my drawings of late. Didn't quite get the creepiness factor I'd hoped... this is a rather dusty, apologetic bearer of bad news.

(Random note : when you google "Undertaker" - for costume research in my case - all you get is wrestling pictures. The hell?!)

Ya know, I think this turned out excellent for a reference to Mr. Ibis 'inbetween' like Shadow would once in a while catch a glimpse of the costume and true forms of the gods. It even looks like how I read Ibis' character. That's crazy.

This is beyond amazing. I think Mr Ibis doesn't really get the recognition (or the fanart) he deserves.

This version of Mr. Ibis is actually alot creepier then how I imagined him.
I like this quite a bit, just not how I imagined him to be, I would like to see how you pictured Jackel as well ^^

What a cool piece! The scale and creepiness is really cool. You should look up the doctors suits from the Middle Ages... I think you will be intrigued.
