Sculpture class again.
Grandville meets Gaiman... sort of, this wasn't my best work.
The idea was to do an animal-headed human figure and play with character traits and physionomy. Very much like the Blacksad comic and the work of Grandville (who, btw, if you don't know, you must Google this instant. Awesome 19th cent. French caricaturist and surreal artist.)
I was very very heavily inspired by Mister Ibis of the Jaquel and Ibis Funeral Home in Gaiman's American Gods, as well as by a creepy birdskull-headed figure who's been popping up in my drawings of late. Didn't quite get the creepiness factor I'd hoped... this is a rather dusty, apologetic bearer of bad news.
(Random note : when you google "Undertaker" - for costume research in my case - all you get is wrestling pictures. The hell?!)
The detail is amazing, and, really, it just looks fantastic.
Insta-fave!
I like this quite a bit, just not how I imagined him to be, I would like to see how you pictured Jackel as well ^^
You mean the plague doctor's masks, right? Yeah, saw some awesome illustrations of those...
