"...
But if of ships I now should sing, what ship would come to me?
What ship would ever bear me back across so wide a Sea?"

after the Lament of Galadriel, from The Fellowship of the Ring.

When you really get into the Silmarillion and all, the sorrow of the Elves is just gutting. And as far as I'm concerned Saruman deserved his unpleasant death (I'm speaking bookverse here!) if only for mocking Galadriel about that.

Another watercolour rather-quickie instead of doing my animation assignment. (And I have paid for wasting that time...)

Wow, I just finished reading the Silmarillion for the first time, and yes, I felt very gutted after. *sob* This is so gorgeous.

First, the image. Colours are good, very lorien-like. Strong and vigorous. If taken out of the context, I'd say she a witch in a bonfire, but she is Galadriel. Her posture is good, the arms are very expressive - as well as the angle of her head. Very proud, but sad, god-like to mortals. Only one thing I would have had different in her figure: Even though Tolkien described elves quite nimble, she could use some breasts. Nothing big or burlesque, but some. It would make her more feminine and a bit more maternal. Less nimble at chest, more nimble at neck.

Then, the story behind. I love it. She is personally very important to me. I have few slightly older female friends, who are both wise and beautiful. They are the Galadriels of my life. And the song, <sigh>. It was my trademark as "the cute elfboy", as some labeled me 10 years ago. Especially one girl always insisted me to sigh this song. And I sang. It's a beautiful song, full of creation, longing and personal memories.

Sister, you hit pretty close to mark with this theme. I salute you.

Thank you. For the thoughtful commment, several points well made, and for the vindicating sense that I got it (near) right, as far as some folks are concerned.
