... You can defintely make a case for Author On Board when it comes to Christine's attitude regarding the pending sequel.
SPOILERS AHOY I apologize if the comic spoilerizes anything for people, and I'll admit I'm not quite sure of my info. But the wiki tells me the plot of Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Love Never Dies'</i> will be leering heavily towards that of 'Phantom of Manhattan' by Forsythe.... So Yeah. I can't see Christine being too thrilled by that. And the whole "their son is actually Erik's cos Raoul got his goolies shot off in hunting accident and cannot father an heir" is like: yays yet more fop-emasculating, and HELLO SQUICK.
And while part of me thinks it somewhat pretentious and daft that the characters of the fancomic claim to prefer living in said fancomic than go on to their canon destinies in a sequel, I suppose I am influenced by some of the Official Fanfiction University... fics, where, for example, the Harry Potter cast would brace every so often for the massive changes brought by the latest book release and that could lead to some meta yet moving drama.
Also, this page was initially a lot more somber and somewhat lacking in punchline until I decided to screw Cerberus Syndrome.
And I'm not entirely sure whether Erik's thoughts in that last are more of the "YAY I SCORED" or "OMG I scored and I HAVE NO MEMORY OF THIS FACT ARGH" variety right there...

Well, having seen LND..it's not a case of "raoul got his goolies shot off"....it's a matter of she had second thoughts and had a one-night stand with him after going off with Raoul at the end of phantom (and why not? Raoul is lame ), and got pregnant from that. But, despite said one-night, Erik felt Raoul was the better choice for her life, ran off before she woke up, and faked his own death to escape to America with the Girys. Flash-forward 10 years later to the sequel. Raoul has become a gambler, implied alcoholic and is generally a jerk (though he had his jerk moments in PoTo...what with his whole seeming to think Christine is a nutter imagining this phantom business...) but yeah...the end is a let-down. But I guess ALW can't stand for the phantom to actually get a happy ending ~_~;
I've read like all of them and i'm like.......Christen just kiss him already! jk I feel bad for the guy he tries so hard only to be rejected over and over again.
One of the reasons this comic works so well, besides the expressive art and the brilliant humor, ... in fact the MAIN reason this comic succeeds is because of the sophisticated and tender characterizations of this well known cast.
We already loved them, and it would have been easy to dangle fanbait and simply indulge in fanservice fetishes. But you obviously love them too, and have clearly thought through and layered their stories and personalities. This isn't just fanservice, this is a lovely set of character studies with love, humor, and a lot of glitter thrown in.
Thank you for giving these characters the care and attention they deserve. You are wonderful.
