GND236 - Typecasting by Pika-la-Cynique GND236 - Typecasting by Pika-la-Cynique

(Mag's costume is based off a performance of the Magic Flute starring Olga Polyakova that I stumbled upon on google images, and delighted in the glossy black feathers that connected neatly with her fateful Chromaggia outfit.)

Louisa done amazing, as usual.

Underworld Boss-lady - so the Veronica Lake (via Jessica Rabbit) styling was not my imagination after all! (And yes, definitely 1930s...)

And nor was Raoul's strong resemblance to Lous XIV :D
Although it sounds as if the two parties didn't co-ordinate their costume choices in advance after all, which seems almost too much of a coincidence -- the Fourth Wall presumably in operation.
Presumably "Naturellement" is Raoul's response to the voiceover announcement of Erik as "Monseigneur Lune", rather than to his "Ah." (Assuming I'm reading the former comment correctly in the resigned sense "of course, it would be...")
With "Erik?" as Mag questioning her escort as to what, exactly, is going on in the silences between the words..?

I do love the ingenuity with which you've come up with a rationale for Erik to have a vertical half-moon mask, rather than the normal half-mask worn by the other masqueraders! And I like the little white highlight bringing Sarah into the foreground in the final panel.

GAH!!!!!!! ROSE! DOCTOR! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!
....Bummer about Rose not wearing a pretty dress though :( If you were keeping themes, with costumes you could have done something based off the story of the Salvador Dali/Disney short Destino: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GFkN4… .....which, yeah, sadly would have been appropriate. Though I'm sure you already have something.
....Still bummed that Rose doesn't get a fancy dress. Her Doctor is always good the way he is :)

there truly needs to be Some rumple/belle love going on here, something Once Upon a Time!!! i definitely think it suites GND to a T! Maybe some Emma/Hook/Bael love triangle chucked in for good measure/ perhaps regina and Robin hood? Come on girl, the story writes itself!!!

So write your own spin-offs?
OUAT is already a multiplayer crossover type 'verse; and Rumbelle is a tad redundant with J/S issues.
Also I've not watched the whole thing yet, and I am fairly lukewarm about it.

Aww thats sad. i adore OUAT. I was hoping since you have done a few references that you may enjoy it as well. That and I am not particularly good at fanfics, I get too rolled up in having to keep true to cannon and such. You're the only one I can enjoy

"Chum'' in this context rapidly becomes the other sort, and draws sharks - who does Sarah hate enough to ensure they are immediately shot to the top of Jareth's shit list? Bringing a date along would be painting a target on that person's back....

You're right, oh, I didn't look at it from that perspective at all! Poor potential guys! (Good thing you got away, Jacob?)

Chum would have to be ... mighty strong if not indestructible to fight all those punjab lasso- eh, evil glitter magic attacks.

Yeeeears ago when Jacob passed through the comic I batted at the idea of him coming back and properly dating with Sarah - he does have a few advantages on your average Muggle when it comes to resisting Jareth's Intimidation rolls. There was even a doodle of Sarah happily reading snuggled with his wolf form while a pissed-off owl glared through the window... Back in the day before 'Breaking Dawn'/the films, I had a soft spot for Jacob.

I might never get used to that slang word, I makes me always see puppies in front of my inner eye...!

Welp, Paranorman:
Really enjoyed the visuals, if I re-watch the film those will probably be my main reason - if only just to catch some of the details I probably missed.
The story: What I r-e-a-l-l-y appreciated were the messages "People, learn to lis-ten" and "Don't you hurt someone just because you think he/she's weird". There are already way to many movies with the 564th uninspired variation of "Your heart knows the answer" or "Friends will be friends", especially when aimed at kids. (Not that those are bad messages) I also liked that the big issue of bullying was shown in a more three-dimensional way than in many other movies.
But aside from its messages, Paranorman gave also importance to action, humour, horror and referencejokes-referencejokes-referencejokes. That's not a bad thing, yet I had the feeling all those elements combined together couldn't find quite the convincing balance. Probably also because there were imho also surprisingly many (!) scenes bordering (?) on painfully dreary thrown into the mix. Woah, Norman got so much hate and misunderstanding, I was pretty much less into his adventure and more into "The boy has it -so- bad already, why does he have to deal with a zombie spree and some ancient curse now? Someone send him an owl with a letter for Hogwarts!"
Those are my first-time-watcher feelings in a very short way (ha), I could probably easily write thrice as much.
... The plot twist actually didn't surprise me that much, and I don't think because I was forewarned by you - I was also forewarned for "Frozen", yet the surprises there felt definitely bigger. Considering Paranorman I was more surprised that a) X turned out gay :) and b) Granny being the mother of Norman's father instead of Norman's mother.

"There was even a doodle of Sarah happily reading snuggled with his wolf form while a pissed-off owl glared through the window (...)"

There are "GND - CUT SCENES"?! If you are still thinking about special features for the celebration of chapter 250, I've got an idea... :eyes:

"Back in the day before 'Breaking Dawn'/the films, I had a soft spot for Jacob."

I feel tempted to write about my own Twilight feels now, ;P but I better don't get started. Oh well, I guess now that canon-Jacob imprinted on someone (retch) it would be a little hard to explain why he would still fancy Sarah, anyway.

Heheheh. Yeah, there are a few dead-ends and dropped ideas in the clear plastic binders. Like, the 4th or 3rd page I ever scribbled way back when I was beginning this - that's december 2007 ho-lee crap - has Jareth grabbing Sarah and making-out in the linen closet. Ahahahaha. I thought it would be so much easier to get to that point....
And there was a different build-up to The Kiss - happened in the carpark, Jareth was out getting croissants because of a lost bet with Erik and Sarah's car wouldn't start...(too much expositition, not enough panel space left for the actual snogging.) Merry Gentry crossover. And other gag ideas that were since altered and absorbed in other pages... Mostly they are scribbled messes, tho. It might be an idea, to do a Cut Scenes edition, but most of the ideas just turned out to be underwhelming so I'm not the proudest of them. And some have lines I mean to shoe in yet...

I think I can promise you 300+ comments for the linen closet scene alone. :giggle: But I also understand if you want to keep hidden what has been hid - most artists probably have "those kind" of drawings/doodles somewhere.
