... That went surprisingly well. With a lot going not-quite-spoken.
And amusingly enough it was this sort of time of year - early winter - that Sarah got kidnapped to the rooftop that other time, too.

[Unfortunately it's kinda hard to draw ironic enthusiasm, or at least I failed - panels 1-2-3 Sarah is being very brittle and snarky-toned in her "yay"-ness. just fyi.]

(... Oh gosh I am not doing all the Underground pages in colour...!!)

Ooh, I've got goosebumps. He may still be irresponsible and selfish, but Jareth is getting better at expressing his earnest affection with more mature emphases. ^_^

Oh, so apparently Jareth is coming to the Labyrinth after all?

I wonder why it's inappropriate for Sarah to use a Portkey? Because she's not part of the universe to which that particular magic is native, perhaps...

So in fact Luna at least can get back whenever she wants, via 'mechanical' (or at least pre-charged) magic, quite independently of Jareth or anyone else.

"Moontouched" fits Luna's little oddities perfectly! (So much so that I wonder if that's what Rowling had in mind when naming her...)

Inappropriate for Sarah in her capacity as 'Temporary Acting Goblin Monarch'. As Jareth says, royalty needs to travel in style and [at least with the appearance of] under one's own powers - not as a hanger-on to someone else's Portkey.

::reading, reading, reading... LOSING IT when I got to Luna's line in the last panel:: ^_^

Holy shit I think I just developed a mighty need for matched ankle tattoos saying "It's further than you think" and "...And time is short..." (Or perhaps that would look better as a ring around one ankle?) Wait, what, a webcomic didn't just give me a metaphorical tattoo boner because of characters whispering and doing the dimension-shift mambo, that'd be weird, pssshhhhhht.

On the re-read (naturally... Seriously, though, what else would I be doing?)

:bulletblue: Sarah's moment of looking straight at Jareth before she closes his eyes. Based on her expression, and the fact that she might be blushing, even as one of her eyes is ready to peak open super-quick, the look in Jareth's eyes must have been amazing. *sigh*
:bulletblue: The way he LOOKS at her while her eyes are closed, and how she settles into that moment of him looking at her.
:bulletblue: How whole-heartedly Luna enters into the adventure. We learn from Jareth a couple of panels later that Luna knew to expect something like this. I love her enthusiasm!
:bulletblue: Again with the partial faces! :iconmeltplz:
:bulletblue: The look on Jareth's face in the penultimate panel. That panel alone would have been enough happy fangirl moment for the whole ep. How WONDERFUL when the story and characters allow you to be this generous!

Ooh. Crystal ball bullet points now? Fancy.

I was tired of just using the asterix. And I like the shade of blue that dA uses for it. But I never thought of them being crystal ball bullets. Makes me happy, so I'll have to use them more! :D

Whee! Color! And of course, that reference back the game of Risk was priceless. Not to mention the Portkey spell... good call Luna. Miss Moon-touched. And of course, those last three panels show Jareth is still badass and awesome, even 27 years after his movie first came out.

Really quick: I feel like this isn't the first time Jareth has broken a hair tie/ made Sarah's hair change from up to down. Am I mistaken, and if not, why?

i got a snake? i don't get it...
he looks kind of sad when her eyes are closed is something bad going to happen...?
Dewdropz Featured By Owner Nov 23, 2012
In the movie, when Jareth first comes to take Toby with him, he offers Sarah a pretty crystal that supposedly contains her dreams in an effort to persuade her not to run the labyrinth. If I'm not entirely mistaken, the crystal turns into a pretty silk scarf, which he throws at her but in mid-flight it becomes a snake trying to wrap around her neck. Sarah throws it to the ground and it vanishes.

I recommend you watch "Labyrinth". It IS an awesome movie and half the jokes do relate to it.

You've shown us such amazing character progression over the course of your GnD comics (especially with these last few pages!). I'm curious:

Hypothetically speaking, if Sarah were to get sick while in the Labyrinth with Luna, would she:
(a) Immediately demand to go back to the apartment
(b) Debate the pros and cons of leaving v. staying, but ultimately go back to the apartment
(c) Same as above, except stay in the Labyrinth 'til she is feeling better
(d) Stay in the Labyrinth and let Jareth "fix it"
(e) Something else not listed here

I'm wondering how much Sarah's trust of Jareth has progressed. Two years ago, I'm fairly certain it would be option (a). Now.......not so sure. Thoughts?

A big ole dollop of wait and see, but you really need to reframe that hypothetical. I think if Sarah were to start feeling ill in the Labyrinth just like that, she'd go with her more paranoid instincts and get the heck outta Faerie. Now, if you want to imagine a sprained ankle situation or something obviously accidental like that, it does get more interesting...

For not taking advantage of her when her eyes were closed, I will give Jareth 2 Shows Improvement points.

For closing her eyes in the first place, I will also give Sarah 2 Trust points, BUT she loses 2 paranoia points! =P

Seriously though, I loved those last few panels. They are both making progress in a very understated, believable way. I know a percentage of readers are hoping to see some Dark Jareth during this arc, but personally I'm hoping to not see that side of him because I feel like it would set him back with Sarah, and I hope he understands that and plays this accordingly.

Also personally, loving the color! =) Spot on, the Labyrinth had a lot of yellow undertones when Sarah first arrived.

 Thanks for sharing, and looking forward to more!

Yeahh some of those "yay Dark Jareth Sarah's been taking him for granted/he's been a doormat she needs a challenge" comments made me a bit side-eye-y.

Glad you're picking up on all the intended subtleties.

"Unfortunately it's kinda hard to draw ironic enthusiasm, or at least I failed (...)"

Though I think I understood from panel 2 on, I also think "enthusiasm-NOT!" is one of the things not so easily expressed through comic. Everyone gets it without difficulties (imho) when it's p.e. in movie form conveyed through an actor, but comics tend to need one panel "prologue" where we see the character switch for another psychological state to this ironic state, or a tiny comment from the autor like mangaka tend to do, or ... ... Scott McCloud, care to write an essay? :)

I think it's because the clues that a smile is faked or forced are obvious on human faces because we are so trained to notice micro-expressions and how to read emotions on people - survival skill, after all. I flailed to find an "obvious" cartoon-style tell/visual shorthand.
