Welp, said is said and all that jazz....
Jareth has been somewhat .... uninhibited (yes, even more so than usual) since he returned (as Javert can testify), whether or not he IS on a bender is really open to iterpreation. And it's been established [ [link] ] that winter is NOT his favourite season even when he's not ~~being mopey~~ self-doubting and emotionally compromised. (plus the whole Jadis angle...)

Legolas is, of course, being distracted by his new sort-of girlfriend Cheryl. Also, digging up Navy slang for James is fun.

Okay... NOW I'm wondering when / how Jareth was going to see Sarah for the first time after getting back if she HADN'T yelped at the Pale Man. And my brain has figured out that Jareth started drinking after he pooped on Javert, while Erik unpacked, and took some Dramamine (with hot tea, I'd assume), and ate a sensible dinner. Realizing that Jareth wasn't in their own living room, and not going to venture into / near Jareth's room, that's when / why Erik called Sarah?

/reining in the plot-bunnies for the night.

I'm not sure what the exact mundane sequence of events was, but this one goes as credit to Erik's observation and empathy skills - he had some pretty good guesses as to how poorly Jareth was accepting this crazy notion that is is possible to give up on your object of obsession and find happiness that way, and was quite certain Sarah would be getting a visit that night. (Also a brief "hi we're back" chitchat). Possibly the tiniest smidgeon of male solidarity made him bite down on a more clear warning to her that "Jareth is in a bad/strange/emo mood about all this" - hence his moment of genuine worry (and self-berating) to hear Sarah scream then find her with Jareth, before getting a proper reading of the situation. (Bit of the good ole E/S teasing there.)
It's not impossible that drunk fool GK might have tried for a slightly creepifying approach had he materialized (in stealth-poof mode, you'll note) in her room and not been gifted the opportunity to be a comfort after the Pale Man freakout. He tends to make baaaad decisions when he's drunk/extra emo.

Feeding the plot-bunnies... good think I'm not interested in writing spin-offs. Oh, wait.

So Jareth would likely have stealth-poofed in that night anyway, but also have made a right mess of it? Good thing for the Pale Man. (Never, I mean NEVER thought I'd say that!!) And I know I'm missing a reference about the bunny being sable-furred. I'll google / tvtrope it after a bit.

Love James' reaction to the Pale man, and Jareth and Sarah in the last panel make me crack up. 'Specially Jareth.

No Jareth, you may not use my underwear drawer as a substitute, love owls though I do. Besides, it's full of sports bras and French cut underwear. Nothing sexy at all.
