Because the wild music and visual extravaganza and frenetic editing of that Baz Luhrmann movie (stuff like this> [link] ) is NOT something you want to show impressionable and gender-confused Goblins.
... You can probably assume Erik was lurking around that gala evening. Don't strain your eyes, I didn't draw him in the crowd, and he was still hiding from Chris and Raoul at that point. but I daresay he was hidden nearby listening.
Agnes Nitt, aka Perdita X. Dream, is a character from Terry Pratchett's Maskerade, which is a glorious send-up of 'Phantom', and she is an exceptional singer who gets somewhat shafted during her stay at the Opera house...
And you can share in Sarah's oggling by googling a fine young French actor named Romain Duris. The 2004 movie version of Arsène mentioned here was a hot mess - the casting and costumes and set design were superb, the plot was meandering and terrible and couldn't make its mind up about whether it was showing a naive and just-starting-out Lupin, being manipulated by the Countess of Cagliostro (and this being a French movie, his initiation involves lots of sex with her...), or the suave hypercompetent gentleman thief he is traditionally depicted as. I do not recc'. But Romain Duris is a lovely young man. See if you can find 'Heartbreaker'/L'Arnacoeur.
And yes, has already establised Nu!Holmes and Watson live in the Building.... which is why Arsène has never come visit over there.

Oh you mentioned the Holmes rivalry. . . (inner fangirl swoon. . .) Though I do appreciate Agnes showing up. Maskerade was one of my favorite Discworld books (aside from all of the ones focusing on Vimes, because Vimes = BAMF!).
If you ever show BBC Sherlock and Watson in your strips, I feel like John should get an honorary position in the Wibsy club just because Sherlock is more or less his weirdo sociopathic stalker almost-boyfriend.
