In which Jareth and I are both very bad at Dealing with painful facts and expressing grief in public; and one searching, brilliant nomad soul has moved on to other planes of existence entirely.
In an eggshell: Bowie's swansong album 'Blackstar', and the subsequent news of his death, have not/will not be reaching the little subworld of fictionality that is GND. Because of Reasons both personal and in-story and meta.
Certainly, Jareth felt it, and maybe at some point I'll find it in me to properly hold a respectful wake for the actor and talk of fictional immortality and debts owed. But.... our clueless fangirl Sarah has kinda enough to deal with, in-story, right now, and honestly, this is a soapbubble little fancreation of mostly giggles and fluff that I don't feel can sustain acknowledging such a huge and painful loss. I still need - and going by comments, a good few of you readers do too - to keep escaping to this particular headspace, a little while yet. I don't know how my feelings on the matter will evolve - certainly drawing the StraightArt!Jareth panel was newly painful - but right now I feel like keeping things as escapist entertainment and reaching that damned elusive happy ending for this character, is my best course of action.
I have been deeply touched and humbled by how many people seemed to think of me and came in search of fan-communion on my page here, as the awful news spread. Let's remember, in our keen and bitter loss, our debt of gratitude - mine, at least - for the fandom that sprung around this one striking film role of his and led to all this, shared creations and connections and friendships with far-off strangers. I could overshare, with you half-unknown half-familiar "faces", just how important to me and how long these characters have inhabited my headspace but - *gestures wryly at about ten years of fanworks* - you know that. A lot of you share this week's loss in a way a lot of my RL friends can't quite grok.
and fuck it the point of this page is that it is too hard for me to eulogize and find the Right Words for you all and I am choosing to play the card of Denial in the one place where I can mostly make the rules. So there.
