Bonne annee les gones

An illustration/card for the Epicerie Séquentielle association, the collective of artists and writers here in Lyon behind the "Rues de Lyon" project - that short history comic one-shot I showed you the cover for (a few untranslated pages here). It's an attempt to work without a national publishing system that - and I know France is, relative to some places, not too hard done by regarding state/local aid for cultural endeavours, and protectionist laws that help independent bookshops remain competitive - is increasingly commercial-minded and screwing-over of the artists. By working with local artists and local book sellers we cut distribution costs and all stick an oar in to get issues posted and delivered; meaning that for a 12p, 3€ comic a whole whopping 33% - yes, 1€ - goes directly to the artist. We've met with wonderful feedback and support and I am very proud to be one of the first year's published issues.

Anyone wanting to practice their French and learn all sorts of trivia pertaining to the city of Lyon(s), we do mail monthly issues worldwide. Ask timmothyb if he's enjoyed them.
